I never cut regular sideways against the grain, warping problems but since this is pressed have had no problems.

MY FIRST cuts after Lowe's is 7 inches from grooved female side then 16 1/2 twice with a 7 inch male piece glued into first for a 8 frame top. I have stopped making 5 frame nuc boxes only 8 frame now and 8 frame pollination equipment start up. The finished top hole is feeder.

The ONLY scrap is 1 1/2 inch from sideways cut $25 sheet gives 13 $2 tops,

TIP You need a sharpie marker It's so dense won't take pen pencil marks,

CRYSTALLIZED HARD HONEY OVEN LIGHT BULBS Reheating Glass or Plastic Jars and Honey Sticks, John Pluta Georgia Bees Small Scale Honey Heating Bee Pollen Moisture Reduction Drying

OVEN LIGHT BULBS Reheating Crystallized Honey Plastic Jars and Honey Sticks,
John Pluta Georgia Bees Small Scale Honey Heating

OVEN Light Bulb Bee Pollen Drying,
Beepollen Oven Moisture Reduction Beekeeping Trick
Georgia Beekeeper John Pluta

GOT CRYSTALLIZED HONEY?
NEED TO DRY BEE POLLEN?

Acquire an old NON WORKING used oven

Your home oven will work if you are careful to tell
EVERYONE NOT To turn on without looking inside ALWAYS

An older used oven is only for the insulating factor and racks for spacing.

The light bulb socket can be used but most require the 220 connection.

Use an extension cord or direct wire a lamp or light bulb socket inside.

75 or 100 watt regular light bulbs generate tremendous heat.

DEPENDING ON TIME OF YEAR AND ROOM TEMPERATURE

DIFFERENT LIGHT BULB BRANDS VARY

1 or 2 bulbs will generate 100 to 140 degrees to re liquefy Honey
or reduce moisture and dry Bee Pollen

COMMON SENSE PLEASE

HONEY EXPANDS WHEN HEATED

Loosen or remove lids

Glass Jars can be placed anywhere

BUT Plastic containers need space from bulbs or might melt

Bee Pollen Drying depends on room humidity
and how dry you want the Pollen
Metal cookie sheets with thin layers a couple of HOURS
Plastic Tub Quantities DAYS with stirring

Some Ovens will also take 5 Gallon Honey Buckets
with EXTREME care on bulb placement

5 Gallons of warm hot honey is a MESS
and can travel 20 feet in 20 seconds
"TRUST ME"

HIGH MOISTURE HONEY Trick
4 or 5 cases of GLASS pint jars NO lids
can lower water moisture several percentage
when open heated for up to a week

HONEY DARKENING WILL OCCUR to a degree

NO Refrigerator or Freezers, To Much Plastic, JUST OVENS

These are just random idea suggestions for hobbyist size operations

SMALL HIVE BEETLE Problem Solutions, Honeybee Beehive Corrections to prevent Small Hive Beetle Larva Destruction

NEWSFLASH To the naive Beekeepers

IF YOU WAIT UNTIL LARVA STAGE To Late

I continue to get horror stories of Beekeepers seeing a few Small Hive Beetles
but not being concerned immediately.

TRAPS AND BAIT ONLY KILL ADULTS

Adults are the stage you must control BEFORE they lay THOUSANDS of eggs.

The Larva stage are the ones that tunnel through the combs in search of pollen.

The Adult stage is just annoying to the Honeybees no real damage done.

2,3,or even 4 traps per Beehive is sometimes NOT enough.

YOU MUST CONTROL ADULTS BEFORE IT GETS OUT OF HAND

ALL Southern States Year Round Control Needed.

Some Other Prevention Help:

FULL SUN Best

NO Splits Mid August till Mid September, 2 worst months

Screened Bottom Boards, Light and less hiding places

No extra Honey Supers On, Super Just In Time

Concrete or Black Tar Paper under hives, Hot and Dry

Kill all Vegetation near Hives to Lower Humidity

Avoid ALL Plastic Frames with Holes for hiding places

Use ALL DEEP Honey Supers To Prevent Extra Burr Comb Hiding Places

TRAP PRAY Repeat

Small African Hive Beetle Trapping Honeybee Beehive Placement

The Honey Bees chase the Beetles away from center brood nest pollen
so they tend to hang around outside frames.

SCREENED BOTTOM BOARDS, Beehive Ventilation and Natural Varroa Mite Control, Screen Honey Bee Hive Bottoms Georgia Beekeeper John Pluta thoughts Pro & Con

SCREENED BOTTOM BOARDS, Beehive Ventilation and Natural Varroa Mite Control,
Screen Honey Bee Hive Bottoms Georgia Beekeeper John Pluta

DADANT PINE on left                                 ROSSMAN CYPRESS on right above
Totally OPEN Good                                                      Side Runners problem
Pine rot problem / Stapled                                                  Better wood good / Screwed
Screen edge enclosed Smooth                                          Rough cut screen edge exposed

COST ABOUT SAME / Verdict = Toss Up Your Choice
Freight Costs could determine, Dadant more branches closer

I AM JUMPING OFF THE FENCE TO THE YES SIDE after 5 years
I've been in the middle on screens, using what I had but not adding any
5-6 years ago when they got popular I thought great for Varroa Mites and Ventilation.
The following year Small Hive Beetles showed up and put BIG brakes on the idea.
Have been watching and studying since then.
Got real serious this Spring, added a few new screens and saw these hives BOOM
Cleaner Hives Happy Bees  And less Beetles in these hives

HERE ARE A FEW REASONS I THINK HELP
Varroa Mites, defiantly a non chemical help
Dryer less humid because of ventilation
More light, not sure about
Cleaner, less junk to hide in
Access, another beetle entrance but no where to hide on
And Number 1 is it gets new young larva OUT quicker before they have a chance to eat & grow
Legal, certain treatments under the screen are NOT in the hive, Government Fight coming

A Few Problems still are:
COST, at $14-$19 much higher than my pressure treated plywood bottoms
Preservation,Dadant Pine or Rossman Cypress still need treatment, painting
FRAGILE, still need extra care not to crush or break

I am adding about 10 a week and using the bottoms as tops, but still a 5 year plan

You might consider trying a few if not using now
NOT a cure but a definite Help

JP

WHAT TO DO WITH THE SOLID BOTTOMS??

IF STILL IN USABLE CONDITION USE TO REPLACE OLD BAD TOPS

FEEDING TIME Fall Honey flow was weak so it's time to fatten the Honey Bee's up for winter ALWAYS start early to make beehives heavy if not leaving honey. The extra stores also act as insulation and are ready for spring build up time.

FEEDING TIME Fall Honey flow was weak so it's time to fatten the Bee's up for winter
This Video will give a few idea's for sugar water mixing on hobbyist size scale
DON'T let your bees starve, FEED BEFORE cold weather comes

The bees won't break the cluster if extreme cold so feed now.
Extra feed acts as insulation to preserve hive warmth.

BROOD BUILDER Patties,A great early spring tool for more bees,High Protein- Queen lays more BROOD

Brood Builder Patties are a superior pollen substitute providing your bees more protein with all the amino acids, vitamins and lipids they need. It is readily accepted by the bees. We do the mixing for you, saving you mixing time and clean up time. A convenient way to provide your bees with the protein they need.

I start using in January for early brood build up for gang buster hives by March for splits. I use 1/4 to 1/2 patty early on depending on weather and hive strength then more as bees build up before splitting.

Place on top of brood frames or open feed protected from rain for beehives bustin with Honey Bees.

After testing for 2 years I highly rate these if you want STRONG early bees

$3@    10/$25          Box 40/$90    100/$200    Very heavy to ship so pick up advised.
