I've tried most of the vegetable oil traps. They are better than doing nothing but all have problems.
You have to wait for them to fall or get chased in giving them time to lay thousands of eggs.
The bait tubes attract them killing much quicker.
The MESS,oh the mess.For a couple of months no major problems just little oil spills,your problems will begin with checking and refilling,remember the EXXON VALDEZ all over again.
Another problem I found was having to re level the hives,then had water problems.
If you move your hives for pollination or honey flows forget it NOW.
The smaller AJs and frame traps are to small and have MAJOR propolis problems.
With cooler weather coming,watch out for raccoon's pulling trays out or off bottoms,they LOVE the oil.
TRY the bait traps and strips,quick easy effective. But do something even above ^
